Train Tours to Canada’s Hotel Vancouver
Vancouver, British Columbia is a magnificent city on Canada’s beautiful Pacific Coast. The city is world famous for its active cultural and arts scenes, its distinctive architecture and forward thinking urban design which make Vancouver, BC a perennial on every list of the world’s most livable cities. Vancouver is an exceptional place to visit by train, with a variety of Canada train tours making stops in the city. With a Pacific coastal climate which remains mild all year, the Vancouver area is the site of Canada’s Pacific rainforests; themselves a popular attraction.
While visitors can choose from a number of different accommodations in the city, it is Vancouver, BC’s iconic Hotel Vancouver which offers a unique balance of luxury and historical interest. The Hotel Vancouver is a recent addition to the line of Canadian-Pacific Grand Hotels, being acquired in 1988 from CN hotels, but is every bit as grand as its historic railway hotel siblings.
The Hotel Vancouver, actually the third hotel in downtown Vancouver to bear the name was built in 1939, slightly later than many of the other Canadian grand railways hotels. The “Hotel Van” as it is colloquially referred to, is architecturally distinct from other railway hotels as well. Built in the grand Italianate Revival style, the hotel is a visually striking building which is an instantly recognizable landmark in the Vancouver cityscape.
Until the 1970’s the hotel was also home to the Vancouver bureau of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. The Hotel Vancouver’s Panama Roof Ballroom was home to a weekly radio broadcast for more than two decades, making this hotel not only a piece of living railway history, but also broadcasting history!
The hotel provides luxurious accommodations in a historic setting which is only steps away from all of the culture and active nightlife Vancouver has to offer. With amenities including a 50’ indoor pool, whirlpool, saunas, fitness center and luxury spa, it might be hard to tear yourself away from the Hotel Vancouver to explore the city!
Some of the city’s best dining can be found right inside of the Hotel Vancouver; Griffin’s is one of Vancouver’s favorite bistros and its Sunday brunch is a local legend. Even in a city with as many terrific options for dining as this one, a visit to Griffin’s is something not to be missed.
Getting to Vancouver can be a relaxing experience in itself thanks to some incredible Canada train tour packages from Canadian Train Vacations.
