Day 1 – Your Vacation Begins – Arrive in Toronto
The sounds of Canada’s largest city welcome you as you step out of your taxi in downtown Toronto. Couples hurry along the sidewalk, rushing to one of Toronto’s big stage productions. A woman quickly shifts all her shopping bags to one arm as she raises a hand to hail a cab, and the smell of Chinese food makes you salivate as a delivery boy bikes along the street in front of you. Toronto beckons and you’re anxious to get out and explore the city.

Day 2 – Urban Exploration – Discover Toronto
A specially designed bus takes you on a tour like no other today. Take a step back in history as you see the legislative buildings, and pass through bustling Chinatown as your onboard guide tells you how Toronto became the city it is today. Heading south, you see the harbour and your guide doesn’t stop your bus – you go right into the water! Your amphibious bus bobs around Lake Ontario as you turn to look at the harbourfront. The light reflects off the high-rises on shore and the glint makes you anxious to get back on dry land and discover what lies within their glass walls.

Day 3 – A new Culture Awaits – Toronto to Montreal on VIA Rail’s Corridor
Leaving metropolitan Toronto behind, you relax on the Corridor train today as you travel north to Montreal on your Canada rail vacation. Traveling by train is the most scenic route you can take, so relax next to a big picture window as you journey along the shore of Lake Ontario, through the open farmland of rural Quebec, and along the shore of the St. Lawrence River. The first words you hear after arriving in Montreal will no doubt be in the rolling, fluid language of romance – French. Speak in English though and residents of this bilingual city will switch to English without a pause.

Day 4 – French Canada’s Hub - Tour Montreal
See the lively residential and financial districts as your English speaking guide fills you in on life in modern Montreal. Take a trip back in time when you stop at the gorgeous Notre Dame Basilica and learn through osmosis by visiting the campus of McGill University. You cap off the day with a view from the top of Montreal’s namesake – Mont Royal. Translated as “Royal Mountain,” the view from the top is as rich as the French royalty of old. Picture a city with an unparalleled mix of historic stone architecture, skyscrapers rising high into the air - Montreal is a modern city with all the old world charm.

Day 5 – From Metropolis to History – Montreal to Quebec City on VIA Rail’s Corridor
Travel through some of Quebec’s most picturesque countryside today as your Canadian train vacation heads toward Quebec City. Step off the train and into a little bit of Europe - right in Canada! With a historic city wall, cobble stone streets, and centuries old heritage buildings, Quebec City has an old world air that can’t be found anywhere else in North America. One day in Quebec City and you will understand why the French and English battled so fiercely for this land.

Day 6 – Explore Quebec City – Quebec City to Halifax on the Ocean
Visit Place Royale, where the Chateau Frontenac sits grandly on the plateau above, drawing all eyes toward it. Three centuries of Quebec’s military past are on display at the Fortifications, and can almost see the last battle take place on the Plains of Abraham. Feel as though you’re stepping right into Quebec City’s colourful history as you visit authentic Quebecois shops, sample mouthwatering tourtiere, and discover the pride that the residents feel for their city. After a full day in Quebec City you’re rocked to sleep on the Ocean train as you leave French Canada and make your way to Halifax.

Day 7 – Enter the Maritimes – Arrive in Halifax
You wake to the view of the Atlantic Ocean, rolling hills, and quaint coastal villages that look frozen in time. An onboard guide makes the most of your morning. You’re struck by how traveling in Easterly class is the best sightseeing tour you’ve ever been on. You journey through the history of the Maritimes and learn the region’s unique traditions, with the help of your onboard guide. Relax in the panoramic dome car and count the colourful sails out on the water before stepping off the train and right into the upbeat, Celtic atmosphere of the Maritimes’ largest city.

Day 8 – The Coastal Spirit – Tour Halifax
Today’s the day to get outside, explore and uncover Halifax’s rich culture. A guided tour takes you to the heart of downtown Halifax – the Historic Properties. The district harkens back to Halifax’s early settlers and you are drawn in by the colourful history of the city. Visit the site of the devastating Halifax explosion then stroll through the Victorian Public Gardens while a Scottish piper provides the soundtrack to your walk. Treat yourself to fresh seafood tonight – the ultimate regional food for the last dinner on your Canada rail trip.

Day 9 – With Fond Memories Made – Depart Halifax
Much too soon, you bid farewell to the scent of salt water in the air and depart from the Halifax Airport.
