The cost of travelling aboard VIA Rail's The Canadian varies by service class, season, route, and distance. One-way fares usually range from $514 CAD in Economy, to $1,750–$3,241 CAD in Sleeper Plus and $7,592 CAD in Prestige Class. Choose Economy, Sleeper Plus or Prestige Class, with private cabins and berths available for overnight travel.
The full Vancouver to Toronto journey takes around 4 days and 4 nights.
The Canadian travels through British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario.

An Economy class ticket on The Canadian typically ranges from around $210 CAD to over $600 CAD for a one-way fare, depending mostly on the starting station, final destination, season and availability. The full Toronto to Vancouver journey, or vice versa, starts at around $514 CAD.
The fare includes a spacious seat, access to an electrical outlet and the Skyline car’s panoramic dome for scenic viewing.
Economy seats are ideal for shorter daytime journeys, or for guests who prioritize budget-friendly travel. However, for guests travelling from Toronto to Vancouver, a Sleeper Plus cabin provides a more spacious and relaxed experience, with the added benefit of all meals being included in the fare and a private space to head into after a day of watching diverse scenery unfold through the windows.
Canadian Train Vacations by Fresh Tracks Canada’s itineraries do not include Economy class.
Sleeper Plus fares from Toronto to Vancouver — and vice versa — start at approximately $1,750 CAD per person for a berth and $3,241 CAD per cabin for two, varying by season and departure date. These prices reflect the Sleeper Plus rail journey only, not a complete vacation. Sleeper Plus is the most popular class, offering utmost comfort on an unforgettable four-night journey.
All meals are included in the Sleeper Plus fare. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the Dining car. Guests also have access to the Park car at the rear of the train, with its dome-shaped ceiling and curved glass that provide unobstructed, 360° views.
A Sleeper Plus berth converts from a daytime seat into a comfortable sleeping space for one at night. A private Sleeper Plus cabin for two has upper and lower berths, giving couples a private space to relax and enjoy the journey together.
Season and travel dates affect pricing because peak travel months — June through September — attract higher demand, which can increase fares and reduce available inventory. Winter is the off-season, so VIA Rail often offers lower fares.
During the off-season, Sleeper Plus cabins on The Canadian are priced from around $2,500 CAD per person, while peak-season fares can reach around $4,500 CAD per person.
Booking 6 to 9 months ahead can help secure availability for the best cabins and, in many cases, more favourable fares before peak departures fill up. Our local travel experts monitor availability and can advise on the right booking window for your preferred dates and cabin type. All our train trips across Canada include train tickets, hotels, activities and transfers.

Park Car Dome Access Rules
During the peak Summer season, the Park Car's scenic dome is exclusively for Prestige passengers throughout the day. If you're booking Sleeper Plus and want time in the Park Car dome, head up early in the morning before 6 a.m. or hold back until after 5 p.m. — that's when it’s accessible to Sleeper-Plus passengers. In the meantime, the Skyline Car in the middle of the train has the same glass-domed ceiling and is always available.

Sharing a private cabin for two means you have a fully private space and ensuite washroom for the journey, offering more privacy than an open berth without the higher price of Prestige Class.
Prestige Class is the highest and most luxurious level of service available on the Canadian train, with fares starting at around $7,592 CAD per person based on double occupancy of a private Prestige cabin for a one-way Toronto-to-Vancouver journey. Prestige Class tops out near $8,500 CAD per person in high season, and drops to around $5,500 CAD per person during off-peak months. These prices reflect the Prestige class rail journey only, not a complete vacation.
A Prestige cabin offers a spacious private space with an L-shaped couch that turns into a double bed, private washroom with a shower, and large window.
Prestige Class includes all meals and bar service, along with personalized concierge service to make the journey comfortable and effortless.
The prices below are approximate one-way fares per person for the full Toronto–Vancouver journey (or vice versa), shown by service class and season. Travellers boarding at intermediate points such as Toronto to Jasper or Edmonton to Vancouver pay a segment fare rather than the full transcontinental price.

Special offers and savings may be available depending on eligibility, fare class, and travel dates.
