Prestige Class versus Sleeper Plus: which cabin should you choose?
On VIA Rail’s The Canadian, Prestige Class is the luxury service, providing the most space with cabins that are roughly 50 per cent larger, an en-suite with shower, included meals and drinks, and dedicated concierge service. Sleeper Plus offers comfortable berths and private cabins, included meals, and shared lounges.
How do the cabins compare in size and amenities?
The most immediate difference between Prestige Class and Sleeper Plus is space. Prestige cabins are roughly 50 per cent larger, with an L-shaped sofa and an oversized window that lets you sit and watch the landscape in private comfort. Sleeper Plus has berths, Cabins for One, and Cabins for Two. All Sleeper Plus options are comfortably sized for the journey, practical and well-arranged, but they do not have as much room as Prestige. The table below sets out the side-by-side comparison.

Prestige Class
Prestige Class suits guests who want the maximum of space, privacy and inclusions: those who will enjoy reading in the panoramic window seat, taking meals at a time of their own choosing, and having a concierge available for requests. If the train journey itself is the highlight of the vacation rather than a comfortable way to get from A to B, Prestige is almost certainly worth it.

Sleeper Plus
Sleeper Plus suits guests who want genuine comfort and all meals included, and who are happy to share the dining car and lounge with other travellers. The experience is warm, social and very comfortable. For guests who plan to spend much of their time in the observation car or exploring the train, the extra space of Prestige may matter less.

What are the dimensions of the Prestige and SleeperPlus cabins?
Prestige cabins are approximately 6.5 square metres (70 square feet), about 50 per cent larger than a Sleeper Plus Cabin for Two. Their picture windows are about 60 per cent larger. Sleeper Plus dimensions and layouts vary by berth, Cabin for One and Cabin for Two.
What beds are available in each class?
Prestige has an L-shaped leather sofa that converts to a double Murphy bed facing the panoramic window. Sleeper Plus berths become upper or lower beds behind curtains; cabins convert from daytime seating into one or two beds, depending on cabin type.
Choose for the daytime experience, too
Think beyond the bed. If you expect to spend quiet hours reading or watching the scenery from your own room, Prestige’s sofa and large window can matter as much as its nighttime comfort. If you prefer the dome and lounges, Sleeper Plus may be all you need.

What does the Prestige Park Car add?
The Park Car is the elegant observation lounge at the rear of The Canadian. Its upper-level dome offers sweeping views, while the lower level features comfortable lounge seating and a bar. It is a relaxed place to watch the scenery, enjoy a drink and meet fellow travellers.
Access varies by class and season. Prestige guests receive priority access and dedicated concierge service, while Sleeper Plus access may be restricted during peak periods.

Can Sleeper Plus guests use the Park Car?
Sleeper Plus guests can use the Skyline dome and lounge cars. Park Car access varies by season and operating policy; during peak periods, access may be limited to certain times. Confirm the rules for your departure rather than treating Park Car access as a guaranteed Sleeper Plus inclusion.
Is Sleeper Plus one cabin or several?
Sleeper Plus is a service class with three main accommodation choices: upper and lower berths with privacy curtains, a Cabin for One and a Cabin for Two. All include linens, meals, access to shared lounges and showers, and priority boarding. Cabins add a private toilet and sink.
Positioned in the full class ladder, Sleeper Plus sits above Economy class on The Canadian and below Prestige Class. (Note that Business Class is part of VIA Rail’s Corridor service and is not a class option on The Canadian) Economy travels in large open seats with no sleeping provision. Sleeper Plus is the first level at which you get a dedicated sleeping space and all meals included.
