What is the Prestige Park Car?

The Park Car is the distinctive rounded observation car at the rear of The Canadian and one of the highlights of travelling in Prestige Class.

Upstairs, the dome seating provides panoramic views through curved glass — a memorable place to watch the Canadian Rockies, Prairies and forests roll past. Downstairs are comfortable lounge spaces, including the Bullet Lounge, where large rear-facing windows frame the landscape behind the train.

Prestige guests receive priority access to the Park Car.

For the best views, head to the Prestige Park Car — it's one of my favourite features of the train! You can choose from the upstairs dome section or the downstairs Bullet Lounge, and both areas have large windows and comfy seats.

How much does Prestige Class cost?

VIA Rail Prestige Class cost varies by travel date, time of train, and availability. Trips with Canadian Train Vacations by Fresh Tracks Canada that include Prestige service start at approximately $8,250 CAD for shorter trips and include rail booking, hotels off the train, transfers, and sightseeing tours and activities in each destination on your itinerary.

Prestige cabins are limited, and VIA Rail generally releases availability around a year in advance. Popular departures can fill well ahead of travel, so planning early gives you a better choice of dates. For those who want the Prestige experience but do not want to travel the whole route of the Canadian train, the Jasper to Vancouver segment offers the same cabin and concierge experience over a shorter stretch.

Is Prestige Class well-suited for older travellers?

Yes. VIA Rail Prestige Class is particularly well-suited to older travellers who value space, comfort, privacy and a relaxed pace.

  • The private ensuite washroom means no need to navigate shared facilities at any point during the four-night journey.
  • All meals and beverages included means everything is arranged: there is nothing to organise once you are on board.
  • The personal concierge is a dedicated person who knows your name, your preferences and your schedule from the first morning.
