What is the Vancouver to Toronto train route eastbound?
The eastbound journey aboard The Canadian travels through five provinces over four nights, beginning in the mountains of British Columbia and finishing in Ontario. The train departs Vancouver's Pacific Central Station, climbs through the Fraser Canyon and into the Canadian Rockies, then descends onto the great sweep of the Prairies as it crosses Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba before entering the Canadian Shield and arriving at Toronto's Union Station.

Does the eastbound train spend much time in the Rockies?
Yes. Travelling east from Vancouver, guests usually see several hours of mountain scenery in daylight, particularly from spring through early autumn. The train reaches Jasper late the following morning, so views around Valemount, Mount Robson and Jasper National Park occur during the day. Winter daylight is shorter, and delays can affect exact timings, but the eastbound journey still provides a rewarding introduction to the Canadian Rockies.

How long does the eastbound journey take?
The scheduled journey from Vancouver to Toronto is four nights and roughly four days, covering about 4,466 kilometres (2,775 miles). Most guests find the pace deeply relaxing: there is always something new to look at, and the slow rhythm of the train makes the distance feel like a pleasure rather than a commute.
On VIA Rail, passenger trains sometimes yield to freight traffic, which means the journey can occasionally run a little longer than the scheduled four nights. This is a normal part of long-distance rail travel in Canada and rarely affects plans significantly.
