The rich history of Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge began with the humble Tent City in 1915 consisting of 10 pitched tents. The potential for tourism inspired changes, and in 1922, a luxurious yet rustic lodge was built in the midst of the wilderness, owned and accessed by the Canadian National Railway.
Jasper Park Lodge fast become known for its glamorous accommodations and spectacular views of the mountains and lakes. It drew guests from all over, even playing host to royalty and the Hollywood elite. Jasper itself became known as Hollywood of the North as famous actors and actresses flocked to the spot. The location was also used for filming several pictures.
Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge experienced a setback in 1952 when a fire destroyed the main lodge. Luckily, there was only one injury among the more than 1,000 occupants. The guest cabins remained untouched and the Lodge stayed open throughout the season. The main lodge was rebuilt and opened at full capacity just one year later and continues to draw visitors to this impressive location today.
